Legislative Initiatives
The Legislative and Code Committee follows bills introduced to the State Legislature through our lobbyist so that we may, as a professional association of master plumbers, address the context of the bill and whether we are in agreement in whole or in part with proposed legislation and whether or not we will support it or oppose it’s passage.
Working closely with Princeton Public Affairs Group, the most respected lobbying firm in the State of New Jersey, we have set the bar high and have consistently reached our goals successfully over the last 4 years.
• Our focus as an action committee is to:
• Protect our profession from fraud and abuse of the statutory licensing law
• Protect the citizens of New Jersey from unskilled, unqualified individuals
• Ensure inclusion of master plumbers in any new legislation applicable to our “scope of practice”
• Work together with other professional organizations for common objectives
• Work together with the Division of Codes and Standards to develop safe sensible code adoptions
We have been instrumental in EXEMPTING Master Plumbers from the Home Improvement Contractors registration requirements for our scope of professional practice and returning gasfitting to Master Plumbers. We’ve also helped exempt Master Plumbers from the new HVAC Contractors Licensing law and from the requirements of the new LP Gas certification law.
We have also written legislation which has become law that allows the issuance of severe monetary fines to unlicensed entities while abolishing the mandatory requirement for professional and occupational boards to bring any violators to the Attorney Generals office for action. The Boards now have their own investigative powers that were granted them with the passage of our legislation.
The Legislative and Code action committee is the gold standard for the protection of New Jersey Master Plumber as well as its residents.
